QA: Become a Game Tester 2026
Find and report game bugs in Jira, write test cases and test plans, and build a junior game QA portfolio
Find and report game bugs in Jira, write test cases and test plans, and build a junior game QA portfolio
Game testing is not “playing games for money.” It’s a structured job with its own tools, documents and standards — and this course teaches it the way real studios do it.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
Find, reproduce and report game bugs in Jira using a professional bug report format
Write test cases and a test plan for a real game feature
Complete a game tester role play and finish with a portfolio of bug reports to show in interviews
Use AI assistants in your daily QA work — and know how to check their output
Start preparing for the ISTQB Certified Tester Game Testing (CT-GaMe) exam
Who teaches this course
The course is created by Ruslan Murha, former QA Manager at Ubisoft, and Artur Kudria, former QA Lead at Ubisoft. Ruslan worked on Assassin’s Creed Origins, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 and Rainbow Six Extraction and led QA teams of up to 70 testers. He has hired testers himself, so this course focuses on what studios actually expect from a junior game tester on day one.
What’s inside
How game testing really works. Where QA fits in game development, what a tester does day to day, how builds and milestones work, and how testing differs across PC, console and mobile.
Testing tools. Jira from a tester’s point of view: creating bugs, working with a Kanban board, and using dashboards. Plus [the other tools you show — e.g. TestRail, OBS / ShareX] for test management and capturing evidence.
Testing theory that you’ll actually use. Testing types and levels, black-box techniques (equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis) and white-box coverage, all explained on game examples instead of abstract software.
QA documentation. Bug reports, test cases, checklists and test plans: what goes into each, how to format them, and why developers will thank you for writing them well.
Practical part. Step-by-step demonstrations of creating and executing real QA documentation, not slides with definitions.
Game Tester Role Play. Step into the role of a tester on a project, make testing decisions, and practice the conversations you’ll have with your lead and developers.
